Nursing wasn’t a first-choice career for Nada Eletr. The 33-year-old was working in marketing and public relations when her child became ill. It changed her perspective.
“I wanted to work in a role where I was looking after someone other than myself and making a change in that person’s life for the better.”
Fast-forward several years and Nada is flourishing in her chosen career, supported by not for profit organisation VMCH.
Nada joined VMCH Wantirna aged care residence on a work placement while studying health services at Swinburne University. She was asked to stay on as a Personal Care Assistant (PCA), which further fuelled her desire to work within the aged care field. A Diploma of Nursing followed, and now Nada works as a casual Enrolled Nurse (EN) with VMCH, studying to become a Registered Nurse (RN).
Flexibility, job variety and career development opportunities have cemented Nada’s commitment to the organisation.
“Everyone is very supportive here, we’re like a big family. I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else to be honest, it’s a lovely place to work.”
Nada said she chose aged care over nursing in other environments because it was more rewarding on a personal level.
“You’re actually getting to know the residents. At the end of the day we’re going into their home and making sure their space is a happy and safe environment, which is really important.”
