What is the Commonwealth Home Support Programme?

If you can generally manage at home but want a little extra support to stay active, happy and doing the activities you love, then we are here to help. The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) is a Government-subsidised program, providing services to help you stay living at home, independently, for longer.

If you’re waiting for a Home Care Package or you’ve had a small health setback, CHSP is the first step to helping you get back on your feet.

What can we help with?

The Commonwealth Home Support Programme can provide ongoing or short-term help with a wide range of services including:

  • Cleaning and laundry
  • Home maintenance and gardening
  • Shopping and errands
  • Meal planning and preparation
  • Personal care
  • Companionship
  • Podiatry, physiotherapy and occupational therapy
  • Respite and lifestyle

Who is eligible?

You may be eligible for the Commonwealth Home Support Programme if you are:

  • having trouble doing everyday activities without help, and
  • need support to live independently in the community

and are:

  • 65 years or older (50 years or older and identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person) or
  • 50 years or older (45 years or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) and on a low income, homeless or at risk of being homeless.
