Now someone’s listening, I feel valued, content and safe.

Pastoral Care is a model of spiritual and emotional support offered to individuals to support them not only in times of pain or hardship, but also during times of celebration, happiness and peace.
No matter your faith, nationality or culture, our VMCH Pastoral Care team is here to support you. Whether you’re after a chat, someone to pray with you or to simply sit in silence with someone.
“Our work can see people at their most vulnerable… we work hard at really understanding the ‘whole’ person, what’s important to them and how they want to live their lives.” Bridget O’Shannassy, General Manager, Mission.
Our Pastoral Care team support you from the moment you arrive at an aged care residence with:
- Personal one-on-one visits
- Prayer groups
- Denominational services and Mass
- Activity groups
- Talking groups
- Memory support activities
- Sessions that connect you with nature
Pastoral Care Student Companion Program

Through this program, students visit our aged care residences to spend time with our residents, supported by Pastoral Care team. We currently have established associations with Australian Catholic University and Holy Family Services in the development of the Companion Program.
Pastoral Care Volunteers
