The team at Bundoora aged care is mourning the huge loss of beloved long-term volunteer, Dino Bernardini.
Dino passed away peacefully on July 19 surrounded by his wife Carmel and family.
Dino dedicated more than 15 years of his life to the VMCH Bundoora community, making an incredible impact on the lives of residents, family members, volunteers and staff alike.
Lydia Pisevski, who described Dino as her friend and mentor, credited him for the creation of a strong Italian community at Bundoora.
“Dino understood the importance of maintaining ties to one’s cultural heritage. He was the creator and head of the long-standing ‘Italian Social Club’, where members of the VMCH Italian community got together to enjoy an espresso and biscotti while reading from Italian newspaper, Il Globo,” Lydia said.
“Over the years Dino was also involved with the men’s Bocce group, cooking BBQ lunches for all residents throughout the site, driving the bus for shopping and other outings, called two bingo games each week, and would dress up as Santa every Christmas.
“Dino was a very wise man who always had time to listen and provide a calming support to anyone who crossed his path. He loved VMCH and VMCH loved him right back.”
