What is CHSP?

CHSP provides entry-level aged care services to help you stay safe, healthy, and independent in your own home and community.

Funded by the government, it supports older Australians who need lower-level assistance to remain living independently. It’s part of Australia’s commitment to senior care.

To be eligible for the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP), you must be aged 65 or older (or 50 or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people).

You’ll need to undergo an assessment through My Aged Care, where a professional will determine the level of support you require based on your needs.

You can access CHSP aged care services such as:

  • Personal care (like showering and grooming)
  • Cleaning, laundry, and household tasks
  • Transport to appointments and social outings
  • Meals and food preparation
  • Social support and companionship
  • Allied health (like physio or podiatry)
  • Home maintenance and minor modifications.

CHSP funding

CHSP is a government-funded program, which means most of the cost of your support services is covered by the Australian Government. You’ll only need to pay a small contribution, known as an out-of-pocket fee.

At VMCH, we’re proud to offer one of the most affordable CHSP fee schedules around, with fees starting from just $4.50. We believe staying safe and independent at home should be accessible to everyone, which is why we keep our fees low while maintaining a high standard of care.
