Did you know we have a retirement village located in Trentham? McAuley Retirement Village is located midway between Woodend and Daylesford, an hour’s drive from Melbourne.

For a tiny town, Trentham packs a punch. It is a quaint village, with a rich history, and a charming streetscape.

The town, settled in 1855, has largely been involved in agriculture, notably potato farming, because of its rich, red volcanic soil. Today, the community of about 630 permanent residents is a mix of traditional farming families, retirees and, more recently, tree-changers.

Haven’t visited Trentham before? Here are some of our top picks for things to see and do when you’re in town.

Trentham Falls
This is the first attraction you’ll read about if you Google ‘Trentham’. Trentham Falls is the highest single-drop waterfall in the state. It plunges more than 32 metres into the Coliban River and can be seen from a viewing platform, which is about a 100m trail walk from the car park.

Domino Trail
Speaking of trails, the Domino Trail is a six to 10-kilometre walk (depending on which way trail you follow), which starts at and returns to, Trentham’s heritage-listed railway station in Victoria Street. This walk takes in creeks and includes a loop within the Wombat State Forest.

Wombat Trail
Another great walk is the Wombat Trail. It is an easy, 9km walk which is a great way to see and learn about the history of this beautiful town. Collect an information leaflet from one of the Visitor Information Centres in the area and wander through the township of Trentham. Starting at Quarry Street Reserve, this walk takes you through the historic town and forest to discover the old horse racing track and the Wombat State Forest.

Trentham Railway Station
Once a stop along the Daylesford to Carlsruhe rail line, the Historic Trentham Station represents the golden era of rail travel. View the restored train carriages and memorabilia before wandering along the Domino Track walking trail.

Trentham Farmers Market
Come past the Railway Station on the 4th and 5th Sunday of the month to indulge in a range of local products on offer.

Historic Trentham Police Complex
Discover the historic police precinct with a restored police station and portable slab lock-up. The portable lock-up is a rare structure and was designed to be relocated when required.

Trentham Golf Club
Trentham is one of Victoria’s best and most beautiful country courses and was voted Victorian Gold Club of the Year at the 2019 Victorian Golf Industry Awards. The course is undulating, there are no long, steep hills to negotiate. The lack of demanding physical effort to walk the course will leave you free to concentrate on playing your golf, which is, after all, what you are there for.

RedBeard Bakery
RedBeard Bakery is often listed as a ‘must-visit’ in Trentham. The bakery uses a Scotch oven to bake their sourdough bread that dates to 1892. They also run sourdough bread baking workshops, which includes the excellent perk of bottomless tea and coffee throughout the day.

SpudFest
This year is the 13th year of the annual Great Trentham Spudfest, which takes over the town. This festival is a wonderful way to celebrate the spirit of the community and recognise Trentham’s potato-growing heritage. It will be held on Saturday 2 May, from 10am to 4pm, and entry is free.

Wineries
You are in the Macedon ranges after all… Did you know there are 27 cellar doors regularly open in the Macedon Ranges to explore? The region grows some of the finest cool-climate grapes in the land, with vineyard altitudes in the region range from 300 to 800 metres above sea level. Popular varieties of the region are delicate sparkling wines, refined chardonnay and award-winning pinot noir.
