VMCH is grateful to the many individuals who choose to support our mission in their Will.

One of those people was Gordon James who passed away in August 2018, aged 99.

Gordon was a life member of VMCH and his beloved wife Vera, who passed away about 16 years ago, was a volunteer.

They valued VMCH’s mission so much that over the past 40 years the James’ donated more than $200,000 to the organisation. Their generosity continues in memoriam, with the couple leaving their estate to VMCH.

VMCH Grants and Bequest Officer, Sandra Rosano, said their incredibly generous bequest, and particularly for our specialist school, St Paul’s College, had made a significant impact on the success of many appeals and capital works programs. She said that many of them would have struggled to come to life without this sort of support.

Include a Charity Week

Include a Charity Week started on September 9, and VMCH would like to recognise and thank all the generous supporters who choose to leave a gift to VMCH in their Will.

“Including a charity in your Will means you are recognising what is important to you in your life time.  It is your legacy for future generations.” Sandra said.

Overall about 7.5% of Australians include a charity in their Will, while 61% of Australians gave to a charity at least once over the last 12 months.

“We are a generous nation, but many of us just don’t know about including a charity in our Will or about the impact that gifts in Wills have,” Sandra said.

“A gift in your Will, regardless of its size, allows VMCH to expand its services for older people, children and adults with a disability, carers and people at risk of homelessness.”
