Three months into her role as Team Leader at our Lilydale Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), and Lauren is living proof there is truth to this old (and sometimes cringeworthy) adage.
Lauren leads a team that supports residents to live their best lives and achieve independence.
“Nothing is better than being able to help someone achieve their goals, and the appreciation from their families and support circles always makes my day,” Lauren says.
Having the full confidence and backing of her colleagues is a huge bonus.
“I have had countless opportunities to be involved in advocating for residents, as well as being involved in training seminars and leadership meetings… working with team leaders and managers that are not only beyond welcoming, but who are also incredible at what they do. They are teaching me so much that I will carry on into my role.”
But it’s the residents and their goals that make Lauren’s job really worthwhile. She recently helped Nicolie, Sally and Christina move into the newly-opened SDA.
Lilydale Specialist Disability Accommodation
“It is Nicolie and Sally’s first time living out of home, and they are doing so well! Christina plays a huge role in helping them learn how to complete laundry, cooking and other tasks. This has been a huge step, particularly for Nicolie and Sally, and has involved a lot of planning, setting up new routines, getting to know their families and giving them a chance to get to know me and the staff here at Lilydale. Seeing Christina, Nicolie and Sally together makes me feel so happy. They make each other laugh and feel at ease.”
