A top Geelong builder has won an award for its construction of VMCH’s very own Star of the Sea Residential Aged Care, in Torquay.

Lyons Construction won Excellence in Construction of Commercial Buildings over $10 million for VMCH’s newest aged care community, Star of the Sea, at the Master Builders Association of Victoria (MBAV) Regional Building Awards for the South West, on June 15.

It was a great night for the company which also won the overall prize of Best Regional Commercial Builder for 2018.

Lyons Construction Director and Commercial Manager, Steve Lyons, said winning the award was a team effort.

“It is great to have recognition for our staff that have worked on the project and all the sub-contractors and suppliers. It’s something that we can all be proud of.”

Star of the Sea is a 96-bed state-of-the-art aged care community that opened its doors in September last year. It sets a high benchmark on accommodation standards for seniors. It features large and elegantly furnished lounge and dining areas, landscaped gardens and spacious bedrooms for residents.

Lyons Construction now goes into the MBAV state finals, which will be held in August.

“We anticipate the competition will be tough and no matter the outcome we continue our commitment to all our clients to continue to build excellence.”
