Melbourne Sri Lankan Community for seniors

Our Multicultural Wellness Centre in Wantirna is a place for seniors in Melbourne’s Sri Lankan Community to gather and celebrate their culture. Together, they enjoy outings, gentle exercises and cultural events.

Culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) people, especially over the age of 65, are very likely to experience loneliness. The Sri Lankan Community Group meets regularly to participate in fun group activities that helps ease that loneliness.

By bringing together like-minded people, the Sri Lankan Community Group can help you or a loved one join an inclusive and welcoming community that provides a sense of purpose.

Meet Shantilal

Shantilal Herad moved to Australia for a new beginning after living in Sri Lanka for most of his life. He struggled to find his place in the community and found himself feeling isolated. Once he discovered the Multicultural Wellness Centre’s Sri Lankan Community Group things turned around.

‘Being part of the same community, there are no barriers to start with. We are able to communicate with each other, talk to each other, laugh together.”

Social support group cost

Our Sri Lankan Community is primarily funded by the Australian Government through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP). We charge a small $5 fee for activities and morning tea, ensuring everyone can participate and enjoy the benefits of our community.
