Our current appeal: Growing Together
Our new fundraising campaign, Growing Together, will raise $90,000 to create a sensory garden at our Wantirna aged care residence, designed to inspire peace and connection for our residents.

Help return a love of gardening to our aged care residents

Creating a sensory garden at VMCH Wantirna
Beryl, aged 84, joined our Wantirna aged care home last year, and while she has embraced new friendships and experiences, she misses the joy her garden once brought her. “I loved all my different coloured roses and my magnolia tree,” Beryl shares. “My daughter, who’s an avid gardener, would always say, ‘Mum, I’m so proud of you having all these plants’.”
The sensory garden will not only be a gift to our Wantirna aged care residents, but also a pilot program that we hope to replicate in our aged care homes across Victoria, bringing joy and connection to hundreds of people.

You can help make this dream a reality
Sensory gardens are a proven way to enhance the lives of people living with dementia and other conditions. They are known to:
- Support cognitive function
- Boost emotional and physical wellbeing
- Stimulate the five senses.
But beyond these benefits, the garden will create a sense of shared purpose, helping residents form new friendships and create a sense of community.
This special garden will feature fruit and veggie patches, potting and tool sheds, vibrant flower beds, and even chickens, offering residents the opportunity to engage with nature in meaningful ways.
