16 Mar 2020

We have continued to monitor the progression of COVID-19 and have put in place many measures to continue to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of our clients, residents, volunteers and staff.

We recognise that while we may not be able to stop the virus, we can do a lot to slow down its transmission and impact on you and the wider community.

As of Tuesday 17 March 2020, we have implemented a period of restricted visitation to VMCH aged care residences for at least 14 days.

This full restriction is an additional measure which we are proactively introducing for the benefit of our staff, residents, volunteers and broader community.

We understand that there will be some circumstances which will require visitors to attend our residences. This access will be made in consultation with the Residential Services Manager. Please feel welcome to contact them directly.

This decision has not made lightly, with the deep understanding of the importance of contact with family and loved ones. However, we believe it is necessary.

I also advise that as of Tuesday 17 March 2020, we will also be closing our op shops until further notice. This will affect our locations in Balwyn, Heathmont, Wantirna and Ferntree Gully.

We will also be closing our community-based day respite services from Tuesday 17 March 2020. This will affect our services at Shanagolden Community Centre, Kialla House, Carinya House and White Road Community Centre.

The health and safety of our clients, residents, volunteers, staff and valued customers is paramount and closing these services will assist in ensuring our people remain as protected as possible.

To our dedicated staff and volunteers who go above and beyond for the people we support, I thank you for the incredible job you are doing, especially during these difficult times.
